Please join the Anthropology Department, GETSEA, and the SUNY/CUNY Southeast Asia Consortium (SEAC) for a Q&A with AIFIS film award winning duo Dandhy Laksono (Director) and Cypri Dale (Producer) and screening of their film Barang Panas (Hot Stuff). The filmmakers have three interconnected films (Hot Stuff, Sexy Killers, and Bloody Nickel) which address energy policies in Indonesia, corporate ties to those policies, and detrimental effects on local populations. Hot Stuff examines the development of geothermal energy in Indonesia.
The filmmakers will join us live from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor as screening locations around the world will watch the film together and connect via Zoom for a post-screening discussion.
A film preview can be found at:
What the preview does not cover is the increased pressure that the new administration of Prabowo Subianto is putting on these grass roots movements—physical violence, intimidation, and arrest of journalists covering protests and corrupt building projects.
