As a first-generation college student, I make sure to learn as much as I can about the injustice that occurs in the United States and how I can best help break down some of the barriers put in place for people of color. With that being said, I am a Latin woman with immigrant parents who were privileged to grow up in a community that did not judge me based on the color of my skin and stereotypes. I grew up in a dominantly Hispanic and black community, before the gentrification of course and I am glad I grew up that way because it taught me to embrace my culture. There was never a shame when I spoke about my life, my parents, and where I am from. I will always represent Bushwick because while the people outside looking in would call the ghetto, I called home, family, and community. There was something about Spanish music and block parties on knickerbocker that declared summer was here. We had a carnival every year around may and everyone would be in their most fly fits spinning the block with their friends, acting a fool. I miss it and I wish the non-residential white people would leave. Bushwich ain’t been the same since, but that’s why I am constantly keeping myself aware of how people of color are getting treated and what acts are being put in place to affect us. We are living in a white man’s world and it’s very clear to me and for that reason, the COVID-19 blog allows for me to share that by revealing facts about our current president, Donald Trump. A racist man who is president of the United States. I don’t know if he’s aware yet but not all Americans are white… I think he hasn’t noticed yet.

The COVID-19 blogs have surrounded Trump’s incompetent abilities to handle the situation and for that reason, thousands are dying and now the news is coming to light that people of color are twice as likely to be affected. The elections are coming up and my biggest goal is to get people to see that Trump shouldn’t be president again. The argument is always that he has created more jobs and he’s helping the economy, but he is a businessman so making money is what he knows, but what he doesn’t know is how to be a decent human being. His followers are people who believe Hispanics and blacks are welfare abusing, money stealing and dangerous people and my people are nothing of the sorts, but he spoke out and in doing so, he encouraged white supremacist people to feel bold enough to do the same. We need a president who is going to help the economy and be a decent human being at the same time. We need a president who is looking to help all Americans fight hospital and college debt and overall, we NEED a president who isn’t racist. Is that too much to ask for? People truly baffle me when they don’t support Bernie Sander because he wants to help all Americans. But anyway, we have 2 men who are both equally terrible running for president.
