Hello, and welcome!

Aracely teaching children learning games
My name is Aracely Castillo and I have created this ePortfolio for you to review my writing, see my improvement and where I wish to go with my writing in the future. Before you begin looking at my ePortfolio, I would like to tell you a little about myself. I am 19 years old and currently a Freshman at SUNY New Paltz studying Early Childhood Education. My cultural background is Puerto Rican and Salvadorian, but I was raised in New York City. Some of my favorite things to do are play softball, dance and have fun with my friends and family.
I also want to share with you that I have a learning disability. This has made writing a struggle for me my entire life, but I am determined to improve. Before this course I was very shy and never asked for help, even when I knew I needed it. I struggled a lot, but I overcame my shyness, began asking for help, and stopped being nervous. Now, I’m very outgoing and feel comfortable checking in with my professors and attending tutoring everyday. This helped me understand the assignments and really improve on my writing. I realized I should have asked for help way earlier and I’m grateful for the supportive professors I have.
These professors and all the support I’ve gotten have inspired my major and future career goals even more. I chose Early Childhood Education as my major because all my life I have dreamed of being a teacher, and I love working with kids. I want to be that teacher that will help them succeed in life like my teachers always did for me. I want to be their support person where they can ask me for help and I will be there for them every step of the way. I do not want them to be shy or afraid like I was, but instead I want them to be confident and comfortable in asking for help.
I hope as you go through my ePortfolio, you learn more about me, my mother’s story and see what I was able to achieve in this course. I have become a better writer, I ask for help, I go to tutoring, but there are always still a few things I can approve upon which I look forward to doing during my time at New Paltz.
Go Hawks!
