Synopsis/Reflection:

In my virtual presentation addressed to Robert Krol, Secretary Pete Buttigieg of the US Department of Transportation, and to all regular New York State drivers, I presented a counter-argument to Krol’s argument on how the infrastructure in the US is not as bad as what people make it out to be. I also addressed this presentation to Pete Buttigieg, as he is the Secretary of the Department of Transportation, so getting this message out to him could be my best way of getting the issues of road infrastructure heard and hopefully dealt with. I do anticipate, however, that they will believe that my proposed solution will be much too expensive for the US. To better understand them, I did a web search for both of them on Google and found information about them to better improve my script.

Through the use of logic, I appealed to my viewers by telling them what is happening right now to many drivers as a result of the roads being in poor condition, such as mentioning accidents. Through emotion, I spoke to the audience about the tragedy of the I-35W Mississippi River Bridge’s collapse in 2007 that took the lives of 13 people. Through credibility, I included statistics on the percentage of drivers who needed a repair due to accidents caused by poor roads. These statistics come from the American Automobile Association (AAA). I used slide design to make my writing easier to see, and I used images to better relate to the topic being discussed to better persuade my viewers. The most challenging aspect of turning my essay into a presentation was just getting the right tone of my voice. I am not very good at public speaking skills, so it was a little difficult for me to get the words out, but I think I did well.
