My ideas for the Final Project are themed around growth and adaptability. I’m exploring how to visually convey the idea that things suck presently, but there’s hope that they’ll get better. I feel negatively about what COVID has collectively turned everyone’s lives into, but I’m optimistic that things can and will get better, and view it as the hardest part being over. We’ve all made it through the majority of this sh*t semester, and the election, and we can maybe focus now on improving, growing, and adapting.

My materials will be wire, copper tape, LEDs, and paper. My progress so far is that I’ve collected a bunch of election fliers, both from what I’ve received and from friends. I want to use them in making sculptural circuit designs. I intend to make floral paper designs to convey renewal and growth, and will use some election fliers in doing so to create the idea of adaptability. It’s sort of like turning a negative into a positive, since this election had been something I was very worried and stressing about, but now I feel relief and optimism.

This project will build on work we’ve done in class as it will consist of circuits, both made of wire and copper tape. My idea began with the concept of basically using the process of making the tribute card, but taking a more sculptural route. I will bring in my knowledge of crafts, and skills in paper cutting, to assemble this project. I’m looking into Alexander Calder’s “Circus” as a source for more ideas and inspiration.
