Lesson Plan #3

In this third lesson, the math portion, we focused on Even and odd numbers. We carried out the lesson through the LES (Launch Explore Summarize) Method. By the end of the lesson we wanted the students to be able to:

  • Differentiate between even and odd numbers
  • Explain what makes a number even or odd
  • Develop an answer to a mathematical problem

To carry out this lesson we needed to have the students be aware that numbers have different relationships and qualities between one another.

Before you decide to jump right into the lesson, here is a brief overview on how we wished to carry out the lesson: “During the launch, the lesson will be whole group with volunteers coming up the Smartboard while playing the game. For the explore, students will be in groups of 4-5 students to brainstorm, problem solve, and record thought processes. Lastly, the whole class will come back together during the summary to engage in a discussion about their discoveries“.

Throughout this lesson we chose to focus on students being able to explain in their own words what an even number is and what an odd number is. If you want to read a more in depth description of this lesson, click here: Odd and even numbers
