Argumentative essay

Renewable energy has been a growing industry for the last ten years. There has been an extensive amount of research done on this topic. The question is how valuable is renewable energy? United Nations defines renewable energy as “energy derived from natural sources that are replenished at a higher rate than they are consumed.” This can be created in many different forms such as solar power, wind turbines, and reservoirs.

Solar power is a popular form of renewable energy that can be used in our everyday lives. People use solar power by solar panels. Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy states that solar panels work “When the sun shines onto a solar panel, energy from the sunlight is absorbed by the PV cells in the panel. This energy creates electrical charges that move in response to an internal electrical field in the cell, causing electricity to flow.” The amount of energy that this saves isn’t monumental, but with a lot of homes using this form of energy, it can make a noticeable difference. The Blue Raven Solar states that “Every system installed could be compared to removing two gas-burning vehicles driving over 150,000 miles each.”

Have you ever been driving on a road trip and passed a bunch of really tall fans about 300 feet tall? Those are wind turbine farms. Wind turbines are another growing form of renewable energy. Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy explains a wind turbine as “Wind turns the propeller-like blades of a turbine around a rotor, which spins a generator, which creates electricity.”
