“Don’t give up on your students”
– Advice from a 2nd Grader
The following is an interview with one of the smartest, kindest, and silliest souls I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. Elizabeth is a 2nd grader at a small school in the middle of cow country. She loves to explore, laugh, read, write, and most importantly eat ice cream. She currently reads at a 5th grade level and is at a 3rd grade level in math. I like to say she gets her smarts from her aunt. She has more books than she knows what to do with but always wants more. I’ve even found “summer book reports” in her secret journals that she has done on her own. She has a thirst for knowledge that I hope her teachers support and encourage her to keep.
