                                                                  Final Project

For my final project, I’m going to choose the topic of the destruction of our environment and how it affects our current world. My final project will talk about how the environment is being harmed at an incredible rate and it will show how people are trying to save it. I plan on interviewing either someone on campus who is part of a club or group that helps fight against destruction or I will interview someone who works in the local parks department. Both groups will have information on local examples of the environment being disrupted but I have to decide which will be more accurate and reliable. The campus club group will be much easier to contact and interview while the park worker will probably have more experience in dealing with issues in the environment.

My interview will include questions like how bad is pollution in a place like New York and what’s something an individual can do to greatly protect the environment. The local issue could be something like trees being cut down for something stupid or someone dumping something illegal into a local water source. I will use this local issue to tie into the issue at large like the destruction of the rainforests in South America or the sky pollution in China. I plan to research the questions of how bad the environment in the United States is, how bad is it worldwide, how are animal specifies affect by our actions, and what ways is the environment being destroyed that’s not the fault of humanity. My overall plan for my final project is to explain what really is the fault of the environment being harmed and how the average person shouldn’t have to have the weight of solving the issue but rather it’s the fault of the giant corporations. My paper will explain how ways that we’ve been told will help save the planet like making sure to turn off the lights when we exit the room or properly sorting our recyclables doesn’t really matter as the amount of pollution and destruction caused by these giant businesses will always outweigh the positive.

At the end, my paper will discuss that’s it’s not always bad news when talking about the environment and how there are still ways people and other companies are fighting back and saving the environment. Some people in the government are trying to pass laws to limit the amount of polluting we do, and many different charity groups are now cleaning up trash in our water sources.

Dangel, Ulrich. Turning Point in Timber Construction : a New Economy / Ulrich Dangel. Birkhäuser, 2017, https://doi.org/10.1515/9783035608632.

Turning Point in Timber Construction: A New Economy goes over every single aspect of the tree-cutting industry from the ecology of the trees to the market value of wood around the world. The main sections go over aspects of the forests, the products and manufacturing of wood, the construction of certain wooden products, the value of wood across the different markets, and outlook for the industry.

I feel that this book is credible as it was written recently in 2017 by a professor from the University of Texas named Ulrich Dangel. He lists all of his sources throughout the book so you can check to see if he’s accurate. Although some parts of the book don’t really apply to my paper, sections of it have great information on parts like how and why companies cut down millions of trees every year. I plan on using this source to show how there are benefits to logging if the companies do it correctly by replanting the trees and I plan on using this to show how logging incorrectly can cause major damage to our ecosystem.

Hoornbeek, John A. Water Pollution Policies and the American States Runaway Bureaucracies or Congressional Control? / John A. Hoornbeek. State University of New York SUNY Press, 2011.

Water Pollution Policies goes over the dangers and results of pollution in our water sources and how it affects the life and health of those who drink it. It explains the history of how the waters in the United States were polluted. It also goes over the ways that the government has either protected our water rights or allowed for even more pollution to occur.

This book is credible as it was written in 2011 by John Hoornbeek who works at Kent State University. Hoornbeek has a history of fighting for water rights and regulation for around 35 years. I plan on using this source to talk about how the waters in America are being polluted and go over the misconceptions and dangers of it.
