To whom it may concern,

 

My initial attitude towards my writing wasn’t great. I knew I slacked in areas that have caused me to do poorly in previous classes. But I did come in with the motivation to do better and improve in the areas that I was slacking in. I decided to create more outlines before starting a paper. While putting down my ideas and souces I was preparing myself to write the paper with ease. This allowed me to put all my ideas in proper sequence so that the reader may understand all the information that I have presented. I used many critical thinking skills that were used to figure out philosophical ideas in class.

While discussing these topics with my classmates I would use my critical thinking skills to debate and discuss pressing events that occur around the world. Such as racism, sexism, and world peace. One example of using my critical thinking skills is breaking down the moral and ethical values that fairytales and imagination bring to children. If fairytales add a negative or positive effect on their development. The second example is dissecting the aesthetic and practical views in film. As a viewer, we evaluated films and decided if they were accurate based on the context of the film. This includes practicality and aesthetic views.

We should tap back into a child-like mindset in the way we learn. Personally, I did not expect for me to realize that fairy tales have given us the foundation for our moral and ethical values. For certain students, a simple explanation that they understand in their own way is maybe the best way to teach. In addition, One skill that I feel I have obtained is outlining. Before starting my essay this semester I have outlined and typed down all my ideas in the proper sequence before just free writing my essay without preparation. This also improved my second skill which would be drafting. This allows for my papers to be properly organized and with little to no grammatical errors. My writing strengths include critical reading and thinking with an addition of a structured essay.

 I personally believe I could improve on my development and support through detailed evidence. I believe critical thinking and reading should be greatly emphasized for all ages. This allows you to break down realistic situations that could have an impact on the current time or future. Throughout my growth, this semester with my writing has improved and I’m feeling very positive about my future essays. I feel more fluent and professional in my writing and this semester gave me a positive outlook for future courses and schoolwork.
