The 34th annual Graduate Symposium marked the event’s return to campus after two years of virtual meetings during the pandemic. Volume XXXIV of the Shawangunk Review features the proceedings of “Cultures of African American Print,” directed by Assistant Professor Crystal Donkor. On behalf of the Graduate Program, we want to thank all participants, including our invited speaker, Dr. Derrick Spires of Cornell University, for their contributions to this issue. Special thanks, also, to Vicki Tromanhauser, English Department Chair, for her generous support of the event.
This issue includes a new section, a showcase of thesis work completed by students in the Creative Writing track of the MA program. A creative thesis is a program requirement for students in this concentration, and we are thrilled to celebrate their excellent work and accomplishments in these pages.
The submission deadline for Volume XXXV of the Review is December 15, 2023. We welcome poetry, book reviews, and critical essays concerning any area of literary studies. Please see submission guidelines here. In that issue we will have a special section for poetry and prose commemorating H. R. Stoneback, in whose honor the Symposium is being held in 2023, organized by Prof. Fiona Paton. Please submit your contributions to this section by June 12th, 2023 (and note the earlier deadline). These tributes are being added to an ongoing digital collection, “Words for Stoney,” organized by Joann Deiudicibus and Fiona Paton.
Thanks also to Dylan Perles, English Department Graduate Assistant, for her work on the Shawangunk Review.
