Ordinary People Essay

In class, we read a novel called Ordinary People by Judith Guest. It touched on a lot of sensitive topics such as suicide, trauma, death, and family turmoil. These topics are usually avoided conversations in America. The thing that I loved the most about this story was the ability for Guest to tie everything in together as consequences of what happens if a traumatic event is ignored. If a person is unable to come to terms with a situation, most of the time it will negatively impact their mental state. As a future psychology major, the topic of mental illness and exactly how it begins to form is extremely interesting to me. This essay has become my favorite research papers because it has to do with a topic that I´m deeply interested in. The more information that I found about the vary of helpful treatments with illnesses such as Post- Traumatic Stress Disorder, the more that I realized what my passion for the future was.
