Flower Power Scratch

I spent many hours on this scratch assignment and I am generally proud of and pleased with the results. All of the elements that I used to create this game are from my own personal artwork. I decided to make three different levels to this game. I used a pen drawing of an elephant as the main sprite/ character that the player interacts with. I then incorporated flowers from an acrylic painting and altered them to be different colors. The goal of the first game is catch the flowers for points as they fall from the sky by using the left and right arrow keys. After 15 seconds, the game changes its background to a night scene where the player has to jump over the flowers for points by using the left and right arrow keys along with the space bar. They are given two lives and if they touch the flower they lose a life. Once the person gets a total of 25 points they move to the next stage. Here they have to use the arrow keys to guide the elephant to catch the flowers for points as they climb the mountain to get to the town on top. Once they reach the town they have completed the game and receive an applause.

For the beginnings of my combinations and scripts I started with scripts I found on other games (I used the “Apple vs. Donut” scratch by Jumpingbean06 and “Jump over Bowser” by girlysupergamer). I then worked them to accommodate the effects I wanted. I often found that I had to add commands, alter the positioning of my own sprites or create other separate scripts as each game changed. At first, I found the process of working with scratch to be confusing since it was something I had never heard of before. I had a hard time locating commands, getting my sprites to stay where I placed them, and getting elements to react or move how and when I wanted them to. However, as I continued to work with the program and became familiar with it, I was able to understand it and begin to experiment with ideas and effects on my own. Moreover, it was very helpful that I could refer to other scratch examples that were already made and look at references to help me along the way. This is definitely a program I would incorporate with students in the future in the classroom.
