An internship involves working as an apprentice or assistant to an established professional or business outside the university. Internship supplements and enhances the plan of study.
- It is required that the student is supervised/mentored by an experienced photographer or professional at the firm, studio or office. Additionally, the on-site supervisor must agree to provide an evaluation at the completion of the internship.
- Although Internship is primarily supervised by an individual outside of the university, you must find a faculty member who will agree to administer the experience.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum GPA of 2.5, with 3.0 in the major, minimum of 18 upper-division credits.
- Completed Fieldwork Packet, incuding the signed Advisor Form.
- The signature of a faculty sponsor in the photo program is required.
- A letter from your fieldwork supervisor that states the terms of the internship (dates, confirmation, scope) before the start of the internship, and evaluation form filled out by the supervisor at the end of the internship.
- Each internship credit = 45 hours. Therefore, the expectation for a 3 credit internship is 135 hours combined, on-site work, reading, and documentation.
- Faculty may assign readings to contextualize the fieldwork.
- After you have collected all signatures and worked with the instructor on part B and C, you can submit the completed documents to the instructor digitally.
During the Internship the student will:
- Fulfill the onsite duties associated with the internship.
- Maintain a visual record of the process and work in progress supported by interpretive and reflective narrative (journal).
- Read and discuss assigned readings if applicable.
The student will prepare two reports (upload to google drive, link TBA or submit as discussed with faculty):
- Midterm PDF post (due when 50% of the internship is completed).
- Documentation should address the work you are required to do in writing and images based on your journal.
- Discuss learning and challenges.
- Final documentation PDF post or submission (due by the last day of internship) includes:
- Synopsis of your internship experience, which includes a self-assessment (final paper).
- The journal.
- A portfolio of all work completed during the internship.
Note: Occasionally internship sponsors prohibit showing the work itself, in that case; the work will be described in greater detail.
