This New York Venture news article’s main thesis was that a lot of care and hard work goes into producing the show Rick and Morty. Some of my findings are that Rick and Morty is a big show with a big universe and the animators animate everything they do which is very difficult. A lot of work goes into just a 10 second interval in a 23 minute show taking a lot of dedication to complete Rick and Morty week after week. The animators have a deadline to uphold and to have to animate amazing complex scenes that may be a couple of frames is really hard strenuous work. The bias that I found while reading this article is that the author likes the show as well as recommends it. The author uses evidence by stating the show and then putting a clip of the show about what he just talked about as well as citing people and giving them credit. This is a credible source because the author has many achievements when it comes to writing articles and is a known writer as being a critic, reporter, and essayist who specializes in art and culture. The author promotes the show by telling the reader how much work the animators put in and by how he describes how amazing the show is.  This source could be useful to someone doing a research paper because if that person’s paper was about challenges animated tv shows go through this article would be perfect to use with all the examples it gives about what the animation team goes through.

An article published by Florida International University, this author’s main thesis was the burdens of alienation and nihilism in modern society. Some of my major findings from the article are that being alienated to not really think for oneself and make others shape you relates to how capitalism in modern society affects people. In the show one of the episodes the father of Morty who doesn’t think for himself goes along and enjoys when his planet is taken over because he gets a new job making him feel important. The father expresses how he has never been happier essentially being told what to do whereas Rick, the complete opposite of him, always thinks for himself. Rick brings down the planet takeover by changing the currency from 1 to 0 which translates to our current time in that if you were to do the same with the U.S dollar the result would be the same as a complete destruction of the system. This shows in a postmodern/capitalist society people who care about a number on a screen would rather be told what to do than others who don’t care about money are in a sense more free. Limitations with this source are that the author repeatedly quotes Erich Fromm’s depictions and no one else’s not leaving room from different perspectives of the same topic. Also I could not find anything about the author at all. The bias I found was that in the end the author believes the best thing is to be like both Rick and the father as well as the author only quoting depictions from Erich Fromm. This just limits how much more reliable the source could’ve been without the author’s opinion or use of one person’s depictions. My analysis of this source is that it is reliable but could have been better if not for a little bias and not expanding more than one person’s thoughts on a matter. This source can be useful to someone who is doing a research paper of how capitalism and modern society affects people and their thoughts and  how media is portrayed nowadays.

Norris, Duncan. “Pop Cultural Assimilation of the Lovecraftian Worldview through the Lens of Rick and Morty.” Lovecraft Annual, no. 10, 2016, pp. 205–09. JSTOR, https://www.jstor.org/stable/26868521.

Accessed 13 Dec. 2022.

In this article the author’s main thesis is the dissemination of Lovecraftian ideas that goes beyond a book catalog. Major points in this article are that it is shown in the intro to the show that a big squid monster referencing cuthulu Lovecraft’s most famous monster is chasing Rick and Morty. It’s not just what you see but also how the creators choose to make their show using many themes and tropes of lovecraftian elements throughout. There were no flaws or biases that I could find from reading this article. The source is very reliable as the author provides many different examples from the show and quotes various different people. This article is from JSTOR which is a credible container of academic and scholarly works. This article would be amazing for a research paper on the author Lovecraft and his types of work that have spread into pop culture.

Gault, Matthew. “Scientist Published Papers Based on ‘Rick and Morty’ to Expose Predatory Academic Journals.” VICE, 2 Oct. 2018, https://www.vice.com/en/article/3km5j8/scientist-published-papers-based-on-rick-an

d-morty-to-expose-predatory-academic-journals.

This article’s main thesis is that fake news is getting worse for scientific research. The main point is that there is so much science fiction including Rick and Morty that actual scientific journals have published articles describing the scenarios of Rick and Morty. Fake science news is getting worse everyday as people will publish anything without checking for sources. Solutions have already been established such as checking the scientific sources website for legitimacy and not taking scientific articles at face value without more research. Rick and Morty in the show even talks slightly in one episode how anyone will believe anything they are told so long as they believe it comes from someone smart. In this case Rick had told a witty joke to his grandchildren who laughed in response to it later to be told by Rick that he made it up and what he said doesn’t even exist. This shows how even the creators of Rick and Morty know how many people can trust or accept the fakeness of news or ideas without checking or admitting they exist or don’t even understand what was being said. This source uses many examples and quotes from people and events that have taken place to back up what it is saying. This could support someone’s credibility in a research project because it is a well known source that provides good examples and answers that would help someone doing a project on how real science and ideas are interpreted in Rick and Morty.
