The Office for New Americans seeks volunteers for ESOL and Civics Tutoring, Migration Assistance, and Community Outreach.
The Office for New Americans (ONA) Opportunity Center is hosted by Catholic Charities Community Services in Newburgh to provide legal assistance, English classes and informational seminars to immigrants in Orange and Ulster Counties. We would love for you to join us in welcoming New Americans into our community!

ESOL Tutor
Would you like to help English language learners improve their writing, reading and speaking skills? We are looking for committed tutors to assist our ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students during open tutoring hours. You can create your own weekly hours so long as the schedule is consistent from week to week. We will offer training and study space.
Civics Tutors
Do you enjoy teaching and want to help immigrants prepare for the U.S. citizenship interview and exam? We are looking for volunteer Civics Tutors to guide students through English, U.S. history and government study materials for the test. You can create your own hours so long as the schedule is consistent from week to week. We will offer training and study space. Bilingual volunteers are especially needed.
Migration Assistant
Assist our Immigration Legal Services staff by helping clients collect documents and register for the NaturalizeNY initiative, participating in outreach efforts, translating materials and much more. Volunteering here provides immersion in various fields, such as immigration law and education. Bilingual volunteers are especially needed. Very flexible time commitment.
Community Outreach
Help spread the word about our free and low-cost immigration legal services, informational presentations and free English and Citizenship classes by becoming a Community Outreach Volunteer. Hang posters and distribute flyers in your community, share information about our programs on social media and refer immigrants to our office. You know your community best! Very flexible time commitment.
