At the Visitor Center, you will greet our visitors and help them enjoy the land by suggesting hikes, answering questions, and giving information about nature, points of interest, and recreational options.

Duties: This volunteer position is responsible for interacting with the visiting public through formal and informal interpretive activities. The primary focus of this position is to greet and orient visitors to the Mohonk Preserve through the explanation of maps, interpretation of exhibitions and/or programs at the Visitor Center, designated historical sites, or selected Trailheads. This is primarily an indoor position at the Visitor Center.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Master information necessary to discuss Mohonk Preserve’s trails, mission, programs, and enduring relevance.
Develop a range of skills including discussion, demonstration, and presentation in order to communicate with a diverse public.
Maintain an ongoing awareness of Preserve activities for visitors’ information.
Relate to the public in an active and courteous manner.
Attend Interpretive Guides training and enrichment programs. Qualifications: Interest in encouraging visitors to learn about our natural world and the Preserve.
Excellent communication and people skills.
Interest in land stewardship, hiking, climbing, or associated activities.

Attend training/orientation session.
Minimum of two ‘shadowing’ sessions.
Optional enrichment sessions available to increase your Preserve knowledge.

Minimum: one 4-hour shift per month, April – November. Ability to work two shifts during September and October, the peak months at the Visitor Center, encouraged.
