UCWays trip to Chiz’s Heart Street
Did you know:
The Career Resource Center in partnership with UlsterCorps (www.ulstercorps.org) has a website to assist SUNY New Paltz students with utilizing the UCAT bus system to volunteer in the Kingston, NY area?! UCWays, provides site contact information, bus schedules, and directions in a user-friendly format.
This semester, we are planning several service days where you can sign up to volunteer with a local organization and learn how to utilize the bus! The trips will be led by two of the student project coordinators with the goal of getting more students comfortable with using the UCAT bus system.
The first volunteer day is set for Saturday, February 24th at Chiz’s Heart Street in Kingston.
Chiz’s Heart Street is a homeless shelter for people who have severe mental health diagnoses (mostly schizophrenia), and also houses a food pantry for the community. Volunteers will prepare the house/food for a BBQ party taking place that day! You can learn more about the house in an interview here: https://soundcloud.com/user-559104684/chizs-heart-street
When: Saturday, February 24th, 10:30am-6:15pm
Where: The group will meet on campus and then walk to the bus stop- location to be provided
Led by: Sarah Williamson and Jackie Rankel, UlsterCorps Associate Board Members and New Paltz students
Cost: $3 total –$1.50 each way, exact change. The driver cannot give change. MUST BRING STUDENT ID.
It is also strongly recommended that you bring a lunch. Dress in layers- you will be outside waiting for the bus.
This trip is limited to 15 people, so sign up today!
If you need to cancel, please give at least 48 hours notice. Our volunteer agencies and partners rely on us to deliver the volunteers we said would be coming as many themselves are volunteering their time to host our students and have planned a day of activities based on this number.
