There are some volunteer opportunities in the Village of New Paltz that may be of interest to students or people you may know who want to get civically engaged with our village. There are a few membership openings, as well as some spots for secretaries to take minutes, on our Zoning Board of Appeals, Village Landlord-Tenant Relations Council, and Environmental Policy and Affordable Housing Boards. For Landlord-Tenant we need tenant reps, meaning those seats need to be filled by renters in the village. To serve as a member on any of these boards one needs to live in the village, but for the secretary positions village residency is not required. The minutes secretaries take are not super detailed, usually less than 2 pages, just votes/actions taken and action items for the future.
Each board meets once a month, more info about each here:
If you have any students or community members that might be interested, please have them contact me at ktobin@villageofnewpaltz.org.
