Application deadline: Friday, December 9
Alternative Spring Break (ASB) provides students with an opportunity to make a difference in the New Paltz community over their spring break in a FUN and meaningful way. This week-long initiative gives students the opportunity to take part in a number of volunteer, social, and educational activities to learn about social issues in the Mid-Hudson Valley and take steps towards making an impact.
In 2016, our 10 ASB participants completed a total of 500 hours of volunteer service, leadership, and team building activities in one week. The team held a donation drive at Stop & Shop in New Paltz to collect donations for Chiz’s Heart Street in Kingston, NY. In three hours, the students collected 153 items and $385.86. In addition to these collections, the group also volunteered with Woodstock Farm Sanctuary, Chiz’s Heart Street, Lisa Libraries, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh, Scenic Hudson, The Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, Phillies Bridge Farm Project, and made blankets for Chiz’s Heart Street. The sites and activities will vary from year to year.
