Laser Cut Project

For my laser cut project, I chose to continue my bedroom/nostalgia theme from the last few projects and recreate one of my childhood beds. This project was an interesting to problem solve. I enjoyed using the illustrator program, however I still had some issues with the smaller aspects of my project. Although the main construction is only made up of three pieces, I wanted them to interlock in a very specific way so that it remained stable without needing to be glued. It took a bit of time to figure out the exact placement of the slits so that when the main board slid over it would be in the correct places on both sides. On top of that there were several technical difficulties that needed fixing in order for it to cut properly. In the end the final project came out well, although a bit more delicate than I would have liked (I’ll add pictures of this once I have them!). Overall, it was fun to finally make use of the laser cutting lab for the first time since coming here. The same goes for the 3d printing lab!

  1. I love how you continued your bedroom theme, I could see this expanding into a full body of work and using the technology we have learned this semester.

  2. So cool the way you decided to connect all the pieces. Thought it was an original idea. Would love to see a little blanket and little pillows with this

  3. You most certainly created an interesting challenge for yourself with this design, which is admirable! There is something visually appealing about a small, laser cut bed, so job well done!
