LED Card

For this activity we had to create a card for a specific purpose that lights up using LED lights. Since my little sister’s birthday is coming up, I chose to do a card for her. Because she loves gaming on her ps4, I decided to make the base of my card from the shape of a ps4 game controller that lights up blue. Going into it I didn’t really plan how I was going to accomplish the concept but I problem solved as I went. I wanted to make most of the circuitry invisible so that it didn’t affect the clean look I wanted for the card so I poked holes in the front and stuck the LED’s through so the circuit would be on the back. I also cut out an identical shape in black paper that I would later use to cover the back altogether.

To help stick the battery to the back, I made a battery holder from the templates and used the positive side copper tape to wrap around where the led lights were placed. For the negative side, I started the tape in the middle of the location of the LED’s and wrapped it around to the opposite side to form the place where the button would be. I split the tape so that the lights could be turned on and off and used the copper as a design elements connecting the controller joysticks. Then I wrapped that back to the other side and attached it to the button. To permanently connect the LED’s to the tape I soldered them down. The button was hot glued at an angle with connecting copper tape on the underside so that when it is pushed, the circuits will connect and light the button of the controller.

  1. I thought this project was perfect. The way you incorporated the copper tape into the design was great. The whole thing was just super neat and perfect and your switch was an idea close to genius, using the element of the remote your hand would normally rest on to turn the light on and off. I also have to commend you on just how neat it is because I feel like nothing I make ever comes out looking like this.

  2. I love how your card turned out! I like how you didn’t go with the conventional shape or style of a card and went for the actual shape of a gaming controller! You kept the card super clean and hid the circuits so well!

  3. I really like your card and how you went out of the box with the shape. the circuits are hidden so well and I like that you sketched it out befor so you had a clear idea of what you wanted it to look like. I think it came out really well! I would totally buy this in a store it’s so neat
