Earlier today, I attended another PD that was in MoMA. The instructor likes to let us take an hour to actually go through the museum right when the galleries open and explore the different artworks. The last time I was there, “Starry Night” was absolutely impossible to get to, so I went straight to it this time. With no giane crown around me, I got to look closer at the painting and I was really intrigued by the right side of the painting. Rather than filling the whole canvas, it seems the van Gogh literally had a line for himself to stop at. It just is really interesting to consider the bold brush strokes he is known for making, but the precision he uses in stopping the paint at a certain point, all along some kind of line. It is a fascinating balance.
It was also nice to be able to get up close to the painting and really see the teture of the paint. In my current series, I feel like the colors, while vibrant, are relatively flat. I am planning on create more textured paintings in which the colors truly “pop” out, kind of similar to van Gogh’s textured paintings.
