ENG 160
My Progress this semester
Unexpected events occurred two semesters ago, which had an impact on my academic performance. I was unable to finish my finals because I became seriously ill with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in the weeks leading up to and during finals week. I was so sick that I had to go back home and visit the hospital, which meant that I had to miss my final exams. As a result my overall gym depleted a lot lower that i could have anticipated.
Sadly I was put on probation. Once I finally came back I felt like I couldn’t relax at all, I had no time at all for anything, and also that if I was to let up even a little bit, I would be buried with feelings of doubt and my advisor’s voice saying I would need a 4.0 gpa. While going through all of this I was on burn out mode meaning I was throwing everything I had into last semester which was the semester I had to prove my worth to the school. Through all the obstacles I came out claiming a 3.8 gpa for that semester which brought my overall gpa up but not high enough.
Starting this semester I was very dedicated to having one of the best semesters in my years so far. From academically shattering the educational expectation and average the school and professors had for us to going beyond my own beliefs of my capabilities to surpassing the overall gpa I need for this semester.
I saw my writing with a sense of expectation and pride before moving on to this class. My written work for the semester had exceeded both academic as well as personal expectations, showing my devotion to achieving educational excellence. My dedication to personal development was reflected in the development of my writing abilities. I came into this class ready to focus and eager to continue honing my skills in a variety of academic topics because I felt like I had gained confidence.
my writing process has been affected by this course because through this course I have learned to think very deep yet balance topics that may seem personal with evidence and arguments that prove otherwise.
A key component of my writing process this semester has been making sure that my writing reaches my audience and achieves its purpose with clarity and meaning. My communication has had a greater impact and I feel more successful as a result of my careful attention to creating sentences that make sense. Similarly, improving my essays’ and paragraphs’ structure and organization has made me feel like I’ve accomplished something. The thoughtful organization of concepts has created an effortless flow that improves comprehension in general. Seeing this improvement in my writing has given me more confidence in my ability to communicate concepts and engage readers, which is a big step toward reaching my academic objectives.
The research process has undergone a radical revision, with a focus on careful attention to ethical citation in addition to content refinement. Examining the nuances of appropriate citation techniques has improved my work’s credibility and given me a greater sense of accountability for intellectual integrity. In addition, a careful consideration of language use, tone, and audience has greatly influenced how my writing has come across overall. I want to make my discourse more interesting and convincing by using language that appeals to my target audience and by keeping the tone appropriate. This all-encompassing revision strategy emphasizes the value of moral scholarship, clear communication, and the ongoing pursuit of excellence in academic writing. For example in The Essay, An Exercise in Doubt, “When my daughter Lily, now a college freshman, was applying to schools, she wrote what I thought was a perfect common app essay about her mixed attraction to the idea of melancholy. Her high school counselor, while conceding it was well written, forced her to abandon it because it might give schools the wrong impression that she was a “downe”(Lapote 1)
Many people refer to the process you are describing as “e-portfolio development” or “digital or online portfolio creation.” It entails gathering and presenting your academic work, successes, and abilities in a digital format that can be shared outside of your instructor’s classroom with a larger audience. Using this presentation style, you can showcase your skills, monitor your academic progress, and give prospective employers, colleagues, or the larger online community a complete picture of your accomplishments. In the current digital era, it’s an invaluable ability to possess since it offers a vibrant medium for sharing your educational and career experiences.
The hawksites portfolio, an online platform, transformed my writing process by teaching me how to structure my work, reach a wider audience, add visual components, encourage introspective practices, improve digital literacy, and allow for regular updates to highlight ongoing achievements.
I feel prepared because I consistently challenge myself with a variety of writing tasks and engage in purposeful practice by setting specific writing goals, I feel ready to move on to ENG170/Writing & Rhetoric. Make learning grammar a top priority if I want to communicate more precisely and clearly.
My perspective and self-assurance regarding writing and writing processes have evolved since finishing this course. I’ve learned to be confident in my claims and to back them up with proof.
