I think overall maker day was a lot of fun. The kids really enjoyed making the wind up cars and came up with all different designs for their cars. They were very creative with it. It was a bit chaotic at times. We had struggles with the hot glue guns. Being we only had two outlets near the wall we ended up doing most of the gluing for the kids rather than the parents and were away from the table at times which made it difficult to help other kids with their projects. Also being that all the kids trickled in at different times it was a lot of repeating what to do and they were at different steps and needed help at different steps where sometimes the 3 of us wasn’t enough to cover the amount of kids we had. Being every car was a little different we had to problem solve on how to make it work if something wasn’t working. It was helpful having the examples there to explain to the kids how the wind up rubber band worked and to give the a variety of options they could go about it. While it was a long day event, the time seemed to fly and the kids really enjoyed it despite minor flaws. Next year I think it would be helpful to have the groups spread out more in different rooms to make it less chaotic and hopefully have the ability to access more outlets for hot glue guns where the parents could get involved in helping as well.
