Activity 6 Reflection

1. How did you feel?
This one was not one of my favorites. I didn’t hate it, but it didn’t really stand out to me. The analytical drawings were fine, but my favorite part of the lesson was turning my object – a coral – into a house. I decided to make mine this cute, little cottage and I liked how that turned out. I wish we had done the turning an object into a house part on a larger piece of paper.

2. What did you learn?
I learned the importance of looking at objects and drawing them in multiple perspectives. A lot of time, when I’m drawing an object from observation, I only focus on what’s in front of me and rarely take the time to take into account the whole. Having to draw the same thing but from different sides was really helpful for me to see how each part plays into the whole object and allowed me to draw it more and more accurately each time.

3. How might you use/adapt this in your future classroom?
I would love to take the idea of turning an object like coral or a rock into house and combine it with the multiple perspectives/analytical drawings. Students could choose one object and they have to design a house within it like we did in class. However, instead of just doing one side of the object as the front of the house, students would have to drawing the house from all sides.

Your cottage is beautiful! I also struggle with putting objects into the bigger picture, so breaking things down into multiple parts was very helpful. Your lesson plan idea could be super helpful as an imagination/perspective exercise!

I think it is definitely worth taking note here that some people really prefer imaginative work over something analytical and vice versa. It was good that this project allowed a balance. Awesome work!
