I really enjoyed this activity! I think this is such a good introduction to color theory for young kids. I loved feeling like I was a kid again and I was able to let go and paint without care. I loved letting loose and not getting caught up in details – just painting what felt right, rather than what was “right”.

For the activity where we see how many colors and shapes we can make on a page was a really great activity to broaden the color wheel in the eyes of the students. The other activity, where we painted the white paper colored and then layered other colors on top is what was the real star of the show in my eyes. From the first step of just freely painting a solid color, to adding all these different patterns and shapes and colors to see what could happen was a great exercise with color theory.

The most beneficial part for them that will help them learn how different colors interact with each other is the painting on different colored papers. I think I liked this activity a little more than last week’s because I was able to let go more easily. I would love to implement this lesson into my classroom.
