Hey! My name is Abby Herman and my pronouns are she/her/hers. I am a junior here at New Paltz and I am majoring in art education and I want to pick up an art history minor. My home town is Rochester, NY so I am nice and upstate! On campus I am a part of The Teller Magazine’s E-board and I am in a sorority. I also am a gallery assistant at the Dorsky so please come and say hi, and see all the amazing work we have on display right now! I love art and drawing as well a reading (especially in the summer). I also love to go on bike rides on the rail trail or go on hikes in the beautiful areas surrounding New Paltz.
My favorite art mediums are painting, but I also fell in love with metals last year. Hopefully, I will get to take more class if we stay in person. One area I do not have a lot of experience in is digital art or media. So, this class will be really interesting for me to expand my abilities and gain some knowledge on this type of information.
After college, I really hope to either teach elementary or middle school ages, but I also have a lot of interest in alternative art education like working in a gallery. Working at the Dorsky and hopefully doing some field work there really excites me for this semester and I would love to learn how I can implement this class in my future.
This class is so important because schools are constantly changing and so is the culture. Art plays such a huge role and so does the technology we use to inform students. I can’t wait to discuss and create such important topics. I am more motivated then ever to pursue teaching because schools are going through such changes right now with the pandemic and I always felt the most connected and motivated by my past art teacher and I want to do the same for my future students.
I can’t wait to see what the semester brings!
