This week, I started with the idea of again combing the two places of my work and Colorado, but as the says went on, I found myself going back more to what I was doing before. I was ultimately inspired by the barred window study in my sketchbook to take that similar idea of the drips with some sort of barrier, but enlarge it (in this case, on a 16 in x 24 in canvas). This was also a good chance for me to experiment again with transferring images on a larger scale. Let me just say right now, rubbing off images that large takes a lot longer than I anticipated (like 2 hours per canvas). I also tried then working on top of the transferred image (unfortunately it was still damp when I did that so it turned out a bit splotchy)

WIP 3/6/17
I wish to have added more to these, but last week got away from me before I was in the City for the entirety of the NAEA 17′ Convetion. I started to think about small graphic patterns that are reminiscent of all the long layed over grass that covers the property. My next hope is to spend more time this week making thin atmospheric layers over the graphite and white paint patterns.

This week, much of my studio time was consumed by making maps of neighborhoods in the Southeast Quadrant of Rochester for my research. This past Saturday I went out and started to take pictures of images with one of my good friends. The maps individually took about 20 minutes (making sure I had the proper street names and house numbers so I knew where to stop and start on the street). I also started the Pan Pastel on one of my images. I placed the grid as well which takes forever because it is really hard to see. However, I think I want to change the size–larger will be easier with the pan pastel (I think).
WIP 2/27
Because of the weirdly, and uncomfortably warm weather my fiancé and I have been able to go up to our property more often. This week I have been reflecting on my notes that people had left for me and one suggestion was to draw and create sites from Kingston. I just can’t. When I paint my property and photograph my property I’m excited, it’s enjoyable to me. When thinking about painting my school environment it literally makes me sick to my stomach.

In Progress Work Week 6 February 27th

My work continues with encaustic. I am starting work on three pieces at a time. I have put the base layers of wax on each. This time I have also included black wax on and white wax on the edges of two of the works. The images do not show the first process well. As I go through each layer of wax, I scrap or heat the surface to make it a smooth working environment for the pan pastels. I will be starting three different images from the south wedge neighborhood of Rochester. I have picked three different sizes this time to work with so I can gear what size I want to work with over the summer. I have also included the incision on the teapot. I carved into the wax and set oil paint into the lines. I did it for the teapot and chair. I also went back over with some pan pastels for the chair. I did not like the stark black as much; so, I tried covering it up with Pan Pastels.

This past week I was in Colorado on vacation and also searching out possibly moving out there, looking at different towns, cities, and neighborhoods. Being away, I was not able to bring all of my materials with me- rather I only had my laptop with me, so my works this week are all digital. As I went around different parts of Colorado, I documented everything around me and consistently found myself comparing it to everything back in New York and also felt an escape from the everyday chaos I feel, whether it is at work, driving to/from work, or everyday life. While I may not be looking forward to actually going back to work this coming week, I really look forward to see what kind of artwork comes out of my feelings of being back and remembering the feeling of calm/peace I felt while I was away.
This first one was done on the plane ride to Colorado- I thought I was simply playing around with different Photoshop tools, but looking at it closer, it definitely tells the viewer how I feel about the place I currently am at.
Small Finished Works JB
I finished this first small series and I am planning on creating another small series for the month of Feb. I really enjoyed slowing down and adding layers of ink and small details to each one of these works. As I move forwards I am going to try maybe one or two of them to see how that layers and ties in with the work. I am going to try and use more numbers from the property and other meaningful things to me.

New painting, acrylic on canvas.
I have been thinking about forms, mass and shapes this weekend. To be honest, I left my altered books at work and given the beautiful weather, I really wanted to paint outdoors. I was half inside the garage when I began this, honestly, I was looking at the ceiling, cracks and scratches in the floors… I was also thinking about the relationship between the objects. I wanted to give expression to the forms and shapes that did not appeal to me, I have been trying to make the most of things I ” see” lately and also gain new insights into seeing….

With this one, I wanted to try the same type of broad paint strokes I did before (similar to ) but rather than do it on top of the image, I wanted to print the image on top of it this was also a way for me to test out how well printed images can turn out on an acrylic painted surface.
