This past week has been insane, probably the most busy I’ve been at school all year. I am working with my students on the large cyanotype for the unity day this Saturday 4/29. However, I finished (are we ever really finished) with the pine cone drawing and started a bumble bee ball point drawing.
Got rid of the black lines and brought us closer to the front of the image. I might change the poses of the bodies. Any thoughts?
In this week’s collages, I decided to try digital collage rather than physical. The benefit to utilizing digital methods is that the images can look more “lifelike”/real, though not always. I feel like the digital collage works well in some cases but not all of them. A pro for the digital collages is that it would certainly be easier to have larger-scale images for the show this summer as I can simply have them printed large-scale. I’m going to try utilizing both digital and physical methods and not restrict myself to only one way of collaging.
I got rid of the black lines in this one that I made. Originally, I really liked this digital painting but now that I see the others, I think I might ditch it for the final show. Not one of my strongest.
I have finished my second piece. I was a little disappointed in the color of the wax. I utilized the natural color of the beeswax, but I think I need to stick with bleached wax. I was hoping the yellow wax would add a bit of a Sepia tone to the work, but that was not the case. I bought bleached wax today and will continue on with that. I have been using images of architectural structures or sculptures with the Pan Pastels, but I have decided to switch it. I will try a small piece using the Pan Pastel for a graffiti/mural piece and incising the sculpture or structure over the top for the third piece. For now, I like the process, but I am still working on figuring out cohesive compositions. I also want to include the recommendation that Lindsay B. recommended with areas incomplete. I think I will try that for my third piece.
I added a metallic wash over areas of this to make it appear to be glowing in areas. I added my douglas fur trees as another layer, and I plan on adding more tonight, this was from last work before I went to Virginia to see my aunt. I will be posting about my experience with a gem mine and how I am going to incorporate it into my next ball point pen drawing.
Was excited that my artshow finally came to an end this past week. It was wonderful to see so many students out and their parents. With that said, I was able to get back to the grind for grad work. I have attached my most recent work. I have started another piece which I hope to complete fully over the break. It is an area on South Ave in Rochester of a bike sculpture. I am contemplating leaving areas empty like Lindsay B. mentioned in one of her comments.
Tomorrow, I will be going out to complete some more research and take more pictures around the neighborhoods I teach. I am hoping to find a few more inspiring pieces that I can juxtapose with the bike sculpture. I am not happy with any of the images I have already taken to pair with the work. As for now, I hope to finish the Pan Pastel by the end of the week.
With this revision, I brought us closer to the viewer and added more highlights the reflect the sunset on us. I learned to do this later in my digital memory paintings, so I went back and added it here to make them more cohesive.
This week, I added a few layers of washes to my pine cone, This upcoming week im going to layer more organic, and some india ink trees on top, or branches. I’m not sure if I like the harsh breaks in color. 
Got rid of the black lines in this one. Since I have about 10 digital memories, I am going to start reworking and revising the ones I have made so that they are more cohesive.
