I finally received my Emil Ferris “My Favorite Things Are Monsters” and I am in love, I have been really interested lately in combining ballpoint pen drawings that are intricate, in conjunction with my ink drawings. Andrea suggested Dawn Clements, and I love her work.

Dawn Clements is a contemporary artist born in Woburn, Massachusetts. Her primary mediums are sumi ink and ballpoint pen on small to large scale paper panels. In order to complete a drawing she cuts and pastes paper to edit things and achieve the desired scale. Her completed drawings show her process of editing and adding through wrinkles and folds.

  1. I find that what relates the most to my work is the idea of collaging ideas and different views of a single space together in one composed work. Although it’s the same space, there are different ideas presented within each work, just like my own. I love the sumi ink she uses also, its softer than I would have expected. I’m still going to pursue the ball point pen, but trying different materials is something that I would do also.

  2. I love these drawings. I think the busy quality and the contrast of the work is captivating. Have you thought about attempting just a high contrast black and white drawing for one of your own works (Adding washes as well)?
