These are 3 acrylic paintings with emphasis of characterizing individual cellular components…. Ive been interested in a cell’s behavior and how it can be determined by intricate networks of genes and proteins. I am trying to render the cells as networks of physical objects. I feel if I can discover new relationships between a cells dynamics and its shape, I can further understand its migration in relationship to the human body…. to better help me focus my research for visual culture studies.

This is cool. I’ve always been inspired by cells too. Are you collecting images and painting from them or are you making more of a response painting? Also, I’m curious, are you doing all of this for your books?
These are really interesting Brette! As cell studies, they kind of remind me of the amoebas we made over the winter session. I’m really intrigued in the use of colors and how the forms interact with one another. It could be interesting to also see an inclusion of photographs of cell structures and incorporate them somehow in your paintings.
I love all the really bright colors that you use. I am also really interested in the fact that it looks like you stayed within the three primary colors. Was this intentional?
Lindsay, I’ve put my books aside for then moment… although I really do love collage and incorporating found objects/ materials… these cell studies are much more interesting! Im really enjoying looking further into medical studies in relation to brain activity ( as I am uncovering further within my research)…
