I have continued my studies with the encaustic wax and pastels. The last layer of my work will end with the step that is seen in the image above. I intend to carve into the wax, and then proceed to add oil paint on top of the carving. The image added is just an image of the carving process. It is very similar to removing ink off a plate for etching in printmaking. I have been using the same image just for my study pieces, but I intend on having final pieces possess two images juxtaposed.

Wow this is so interesting to me Melissa! I’ve never seen someone work with wax so I love seeing what you’re posting. (I’m also really hoping that I get to see you work with wax over the summer!) Anyway, I know this is only one step in the process, but I love the line work here. You already know that I gravitate towards that very graphic flat type of imagery so I think it would be cool to see pieces done in this fashion! It makes me want to combine my geometric artwork with this technique and see how it would look.
I totally agree with Lindsay, this flatness is definitely appealing to me, and I would love to see more like this!
