Comparison of the Encaustic painting with the wax and soft pastels. Same image, but I am not sure which is stronger. I will probably end up carving into the encaustic painting first. Not sure what to put on the top yet.

I like the hazy effect of the one on the right, it has a really clean look, but there is something about the one on the left that I love. I like that the one on the right has a bit of grit almost, which gives it a lot of dimension! Did you draw this twice or did you use a photocopy of your drawing?
Close up, I find the one on the left has a much more interesting surface… I like the pitted quality , the pastel one seems too clean, but that would depend on what you do next

Lindsay, the one on the right is pan pastels. The one on left is painted with encaustics–the pigmented wax.

The one on the left seems like it has more contrast but I can’t zoom in to see it for sure! Either way, I think its cool you’re exploring encaustics!
