Tiravanija, Rirkrit

After reading a short article about the text- type triptych by artist Rirkrit Tiravanija, I was thinking about how powerful typeface can be when integrated in art. At the Basel in Miami recently, the artist stenciled messages onto pages of the NYT in reaction to the presidential election results.  Instantly, I thought of artist Jenny Holzer and also Shirn Neshat, I am also drawing connections to Melissa’s artwork as she is so passionate in about sending messages in her art work. The power of words is really emphasized as this work by Tiravanija demands the viewers attention and addresses real world situations. I also think Bruce Nauman would be a nice reference in relation to word play as he is as seen in many of his neons when talking about contemporary arts.
