Artist Kerry James, born in Birmingham Alabama, integrates African American pop culture as his subject matter into public art installations, paintings and sculptures. He pays tribute to the geography of his up bringing while also expressing frustrations of peoples.

Ryhthm Mastr is a comic book  he designed that pairs African sculptures as in competition with the ” cyberspace elite”  that suggests people are losing sight of traditional values.  I admire this artist for his ability to convey feelings of empathy through his works ( especially his characters ) as he suggests feelings of invisibility many African American people are feeling  during these tumultuous times. This is an artist I would implement when teaching identity/ popular culture… I plan on investigating his comic book soon, more posts to come!
