Hey guys, so scholastic is approaching! There is a calling for 2017 submissions, I believe the deadline is Dec 15? We are encouraged to submit as much student artwork possible… the students actually do most of the submitting. But, the gold key and silver key winners the last few years has always been awarded to photography/ media arts. There has been recent talk about the judging panels to be more geared to chose media works opposed to studio works… hardly ever any ceramic work is awarded recognition also. Any thoughts about this? Also, I heard that if you submit an entire class, judges will disregard the entire class as they are seeking original artwork. Ugghhhh. Why bother in the first place. Rant over!

  1. I remember talking with Robyn while student teaching and a bunch of her students won Gold Key. She talked about the fact that as photo submissions, the medium itself allows for more submissions to be possible than more traditional mediums such as painting and drawing. In one class time of Photo, I saw students completely edit two pictures while I know that in Studio Classes, one class time could result in not even half of a project being done. It kind of sucks but at the same time it makes sense logistically for the level of digital media submissions
