This article made me feel very neurotic. The fast paced writing and jumping from topics really spoke a lot about the writer and their process, but not mine. School has really been messing up my creative process. Not grad school, but work school. During undergrad I would stay up until 3am painting every single night. I was most productive during this time. I wasn’t even exhausted the next day. I miss those times. I used to collect cardboard, Plexiglas, any surface and paint on something different each night, really experimenting with materials. This is my form of short assignments and shitty first drafts. It taught me a lot about color, composition and time restraints. Now, I have less time to create but I think I like that. I used to rush through my paintings, but now I walk away from them and think about how I can improve them throughout the day and then revisit them at night. Art making is a process and each artist has a different process. I really liked this article.
