Angels with broken wings, a city on fire, when will the
looting stop safety acquired.
Your mayor Ed Koch he’s a fucking liar.
Graffiti tells the true story of a city on fire.
Zeke a poet, intelligent and lean.  Writes rhymes,
insightful, idealized and preened.
His family destroyed by this city on fire,
loves Myleena, goes to school, his life on the wire.
Shao, street dancer, hustler and friend, has the same
dream of Zeke to transform and spin.

This is the life of youths in the Bronx, where B-Boys and artists
unleash their energetic side, without guns and chains.
Their dreams are to one day get a glance of the American
dream. The Get Down thus far is and introduction into
the like of one of millions of youths in cities around the
world.  Music and dancing to the music of Grandmaster Flash.
Scratching records, rhyming, and growing up
up while the country was interested in jailing the fathers
and mothers of people in color. When I was growing
up I would go to clubs where DJ’s were cutting
records and we could dance or listen to new mixes and cuts.
My boyfriend at that time was notorious for grabbing the mic.
He would include me and my cousins in his raps
at times, but hardly put us on stage with him. We would
rap together and I was pretty good on the mic.
I would sit for hours writing rhymes. This really was a
time of self impression and the boom of HipHop.
