Psychology Practicum (Internship) Course, PSY 497, to be offered SUMMER of 2011!
Planning to do summer work related to your psychology education? You may be able to get PSY 497 credit! For the first time in recent history, the Psychology Department will offer a summer section of PSY 497, taught by Dr. Rebecca Zucker, a trained local psychotherapist with a strong background in overseeing undergraduate interns.
The class meetings will be concentrated as follows:
May 27 (5:00-9:00), 28 (8:30-5:00), and 29 (8:30-5:00) AND June 24 (5:00-9:00), 25 (8:30-5:00), and 26 (8:30-5:00)
With this concentrated formula, a student’s applied work experience need not take place in the Hudson Valley – students attend the first set of classes, do the work experience (wherever), and then attend a final set of class meetings to digest the experiences and integrate them with the academic material.
The Psychology Department has affiliation agreements with many organizations and companies in New York – and if given enough lead time, we are typically able to form formal affiliations with new organizations and institutions to help accommodate student internship interests.
Please contact Dr. Zucker (rebeccajzucker@gmail.com) and/or Jane Lehman (lehmanj@newpaltz.edu) with questions about this great opportunity.
Here are some benefits of taking this course (which counts toward the psychology major) provided by Dr. Zucker:
