Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program 2023-24 Competition Open

The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program’s 2023-24 competition is open, featuring over 400 awards offered in more than 130 countries in all world regions.  Fulbright U.S. Scholar Awards allow U.S. citizens to teach, research, and carry out professional projects abroad.  Applications are due September 15, 2022.Upcoming Webinars – Join us to learn more

Our new website fulbrightscholars.org  is live!

If you visit the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program website, you may notice it has a new look!  Everything you found at the old cies.org is now at our new home: fulbrightscholars.org.  You will see that resources you’ve been using so far in the competition are still here to help you through the process; they may simply look a bit different. May 11 12-1 pm Eastern: Fulbright Forum – Fighting Human Trafficking

Join us for a presentation and discussion about the ongoing battle to stop human trafficking worldwide. Human trafficking causes immeasurable suffering, but it’s scope–a $150 billion/year industry–and its financing is very tangible. And that means we can combat it by choking the profits that motivate traffickers. Learn more about the global reach and impact of human trafficking. Discover the promising financial strategies to fight it and discuss next steps.

Music’s exceptional power to evoke memories and emotions functions on both personal and cultural levels, opening windows into wider issues of identity, ethnicity, empathy, and belonging. Join concert pianist/Steinway Artist, and Fulbright Scholar Pamela Howland, on a journey to deepen and reinvigorate your individual and collective relationship with music in this concert-conversation-demonstration featuring music from Chopin to The Beatles, Debussy to Ragtime & Blues, and Folk Songs to Movie Music. We hope this email finds you safe and well.  We are pleased to announce that the awards competition for the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program 2022-2023 competition will launch on February 1, 2021!  

Recent award recipients have shared that the earlier you start the application process, the more competitive you will be. Here are five things you can do now to prepare yourself for success:

2. Connect with your Fulbright Liaison on campus to learn about supporting policies

More exciting news from the Fulbright Program:

The Fulbright Program is celebrating its 75th Anniversary this year. For details on the celebration and how to get involved, explore the Fulbright 75th Anniversary website.

On January 29, at 10:30AM EST, you are invited to join a webinar: “Fulbright Impact in the Field: Global Health and COVID-19 Reunion Panel.”

The deadline to apply to the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program is September 15, 2021. Consult the catalog of awards for more details on upcoming deadlines for the International Education Administrator Awards. U.S. citizenship is required.

 

The Fulbright International Education Administrators (IEA) Seminars are two weeks in length, and designed specifically for U.S. higher education professionals. These seminars demystify higher education in the host country, and include campus visits with a cross-section of universities and colleges; briefings with faculty and administrators, government officials, and leading educational experts; and tours of historical and cultural sites.

All webinars are recorded and uploaded to the Webinar Archive.

Virtual Office Hours for Fulbright Scholar Applicants
Staff members representing each region will be available Monday through Thursday throughout the competition to answer questions and share information. Feel free to join/leave at any point within the hour.  To join, simply click the “Join an Office Hour” link listed in the award description during the office hour time.  Come prepared with your questions or simply join in to listen.

General Informational Webinar: Monday, May 18, from 2-3 pm ET
Please join the Fulbright Team for a virtual presentation on the Fulbright Scholar Program. This session will discuss opportunities for faculty and administrators to teach and/or research abroad for 2-12 months. Additionally, the session will discuss opportunities for your institution to partner with Fulbright and host visiting scholars. Please register here to attend.

 

Opportunities for Postdoctoral and Early Career Applicants: Wednesday, May 27, 2-3 pm ET
The Fulbright U.S. Scholar program offers a variety of opportunities specifically for early career and postdoctoral applicants. Applicants with fewer than five years of experience in their field/discipline can gain important research skills and build networks with fellow scholars. Join IIE for a discussion of program options and learn about some of the exciting new awards available around the world. Please register here to attend.

What’s New for 2021-22

This year the application will only require two letters of recommendation. There are also more awards that have “professional project” as a possible award activity, as well as more than 20 new awards added to the Catalog.
