Q & A with OVMS – Military-Affiliated Students in your classroom: A conversation with Jason Gilliland and students, Thurs. November 12, 11:00 a.m.

What does it mean to disobey a lawful order in the military?

How would this be different for a police officer vs. a military service person?*

(Questions borrowed from Vassar College Veterans Day event)

Did you know that the population of military-affiliated students at SUNY New Paltz is over 300?

For the past few years I have been fortunate enough to be invited by Sarah Wyman to speak at the FDC about the unique needs of our military-affiliated students. During this session we have a very thoughtful dialogue about what New Paltz, as a whole, is doing to support our military-affiliated students and to address the challenges that these students may face. Each semester we always seem to get a variation of the same question:   “As faculty, what could be done at our level to help with this support?”

Please join us virtually via WebEx on Thursday, November 12th at 11 am for a Q & A session with our Office of Veteran & Military Services and three of our students; two student veterans and one student who is a child of a veteran.

Sincerely,

Jason Gilliland
