Perhaps we believed that humanity was too good not to believe in the most basic of things such as math, science, the basic laws of gravity. Some things are just proven, are law and it’d be universally seen as foolish to deny the truth, right? Right?
The COVID-19 pandemic has killed hundreds of thousands in the US and has cultivated millions upon millions of cases. Still, everyday videos and “Karens” surface, predominantly white woman who refuse to wear masks whilst defending the First Amendment. Images, protests, everyday depictions of life have been converted into undeniable politicalization of what professionals call merely fact. Humanity isn’t foolish or unable to see reality for what it is; we would rather just refuse to protect ourselves and others from a deadly virus just because we don’t want to side with certain political parties.
Los Angeles Times, Donald Trump during the First 2020 Presidential Debate, hours before he contracts the virus.
Donald Trump in many opinions, is the basis of the anti-mask, anti-protective gear attitudes in the United States. Here, he defends his position of not wearing a mask by saying he does carry one and mocks opponent Joe Biden by saying, “I don’t wear masks like him. Every time you see him, he’s got a mask.” Trump directly sets a precedent fro many in the United States, going against what many experts say: that is its necessary to wear a mask in public at all times. Furthermore, in the same debate, Trump defends his rallies (which are outdoors and crowded with no masks at all) by saying since they are held outdoors, no masks are needed. again, this contradicts what information he is given in his briefings and provides America with an example that goes against science. Likewise, the Republicans flock after Trump which is dangerous as blind following corrupts and politicalizes the issue. Days later, Trump contracts the virus as well as plenty of government officials and still, he minimizes the influence of this virus due to his political agenda.

D. Giles, ABC7, Woman in Trader Joe’s Without a Mask
Government influence has sparked rebellion across America. Here, a woman walks into a privately owned store without a mask on. Rather than abide by the store’s regulations, she screams, protesting having to wear a mask. This behavior echoes Trump’s as this woman feels she is above the law, is above science. Already, we can see Trump’s influence reflected into society.
