Composition I Course & Portfolio Self-Evaluation: Reflective Cover Letter

  1. Before this course what were my initial attitudes, feelings/or ideas about my writing, and why? Before this course my feelings about writing were not so enthusiastic. Because I never enjoyed the process of writing, and it was always difficult for me to process certain questions.
  2. How have I changed my process, from brainstorming, outlining, drafting, to revising, and editing, because of this course? I’ve learned how to improve my ways of organizing my writing process and how to properly outline my writing with MLA format. I started understanding how important it is to revise my draft because it helps improve my writing and my understanding of the writing.

  1. What aspects of my main course assignments do I feel were most successful? Consider at least 2 of the following areas:

-Meaning/clarity in reaching my audience and achieving my purpose

-Organization or structure of an entire essay or within a paragraph

-Development/description/detailed evidence and explanation of examples

-Rhetorical appeals or strategies (repetition, questioning, parallel structure)

-Language use, tone, and audience

-Conventions (specific to genre, MLA format, spelling and grammar)

-Research process and ethical citation

I feel most successful at the structure of an entire essay and the development of evidence and explanation of examples in my writing.

  1. What revision would I still like to make in these essays? (Refer t o the list above and provide at least 2 specific examples from this semester).

I would like to revise to my previous research essay, and I write to clarify in reaching my audience and achieving my purpose. Also I would fix my language use properly.

  1. This semester, I had to learn how to create a digital portfolio, and consider my work as public, or shared with a larger audience (beyond just my instructor). I would describe this process as: New and confusing because I had never had to create a digital portfolio to be reviewed on my work.

      The online medium changed my writing process or consideration of                    my work in the following ways:    It was very difficult and easier because it was easy to revise my work and structure it.

  1. Do I now feel prepared to go onto ENG170/Writing & Rhetoric and write clear, academic argument and analysis-based research essays? Why?

I do feel prepare to go onto ENG 170 because of how much ENG160 has help me improve my writing skills, structure, and my understanding of the writing. I feel more confident about my writing. I have a better understanding on how important it is the outline your essay and go on to a rough draft and revise it to get the final draft.

  1. After completing this course, how has my attitude toward writing changed? Do I feel prepared for college-level or professional writing? Explain.

After completing this course, my attitude towards writing has changed so much I feel more confident about my writing and how I realized how important and easier it is to structure and outline my essay. I do feel prepared for college writing because of how much I have improved my writing skills.

  1. How have I taken writing strategies, concepts, and practices from this course and applied them to other classes or writing situations? How will I continue to do this in the future?

The writing strategies and practices from this course is meant to help prepare me in future writing classes. I think the blogs for example they were great way to improve our input and criticism. Also study group has helped, asking questions has helped and will help me in the future because getting helping when its accessible to you is a very important for yourself .
