Looking Further into Paper 4: Presentation
I was an athlete most of my life, I played various sports, and with this, I learned a lot throughout those ten years. Around middle school, I suffered from mental illness- and I must say, it was probably one of the most draining yet exciting times of my life so far. My sister is a collegiate athlete, along with three of my best friends. I have seen them struggle and wanted to share what this lifestyle is like from a student athlete’s perspective.
Balancing life can be stressful- between social life, work, and taking care of yourself, there is hardly any free time. Implementing a sport into this lifestyle is stressful-especially for college athletes. College athletes have a strict workout schedule as it is. However, academics must come first. With the combined stress of academics, student-athletes have a higher expectation to do better or be better. The pressure from coaches further builds up the emotional distress student-athletes have- causing mental illnesses.
Choosing this topic has made me reflect deeper on my burnout and has shown me that a lot more athletes struggle with this lifestyle than I expected.
