Dear ePortfolio Readers,
Before this course, my writing skills were at a different level than I would have liked them to be. I came into this class thinking I did not belong- I did not partake in AP English courses; however, I’ve learned that it does not matter what level you came in as. Instead, it’s the effort and time you put into your work revisions.
Writing may be difficult for me throughout this course. However, if I manage my time correctly, I still have the chance to write something powerful and effective. I struggled less with assignments that connected to my personal life, such as Paper 4, the Op-Ed, or Paper 5, Archetypes and Didactic Fiction. For these assignments, I could go more in depth, as I had more knowledge about the topic, and it gave me the freedom to talk about something that has impacted my life.
For the first couple of papers, I struggled immensely. I was determined to get an acceptable grade for this course, so I made multiple writing center appointments. While I learned a lot in Writing and Rhetoric, the writing center has also taught me many skills I will further implement in my future writings. One of the topics I focused on was how to create a strong thesis. Of course, I knew what a thesis was, and although I attempted to make one- it was weak. With the help of my teacher, peers, and the writing center, I could implement the tips they gave me to create a more substantial thesis later in the semester.
While I learned many lifelong writing skills and techniques in this course, I have also learned how to effectively format my writing in MLA- citations, headings, etc. This course has genuinely benefitted me as I gained knowledge I can implement in other classes and life.
This ePortfolio contains pieces I worked on throughout the semester and the improvement I have made throughout this course. I am proud to publish my work for Archetypes and Didactic Fiction.
Concluding this course makes me sad to an extent. I have learned a lot about writing and am proud of the slow improvement that I have made throughout this course. I cannot wait to improve my writing in future classes further and implement what I have learned.
Sincerely,
Emily Guglielmo
