To whom it may concern,

Before Writing and Rhetoric, the last serious english class I had taken was in my junior year of highschool. I was not super confident in my writing skills since I knew I was rusty. I had always been in honors english, and I took ap language and composition so I knew I was capabIe of writing a coherent paper, I just had not done it in a long time. Since I had not written a formal paper in a long time and I was slightly intimidated by the task. Though, after writing my first piece, it was easy to get back into the flow of writing.

Throughout the course of Writing and Rhetoric I sharpened and learned many skills that will be useful for future corses. I realized the importance of revising your work. I learned that even when you think a paper is finished, you can still revise and improve many aspects of the piece of writing. This idea also went hand in hand with time management, as I quickly learned that writing an essay in one night is definitely not the best option, especially if you want to receive a good grade.

Writing and Rhetoric has definitely helped me, and strengthened my skills for other classes. Learning proper MLA formatting, analysing text, and doing research for essays are all helpful skills that are useful in many classes other than English classes. This semester I used thoes skills in my psychology classes, where I had to frequently do research and submit writing assignments.

Through the course of this class, both essay assignments helped me to learn how to properly evaluate different forms of media and articles, and expand upon evidence found within those pieces of writing. I believe my strengths were within my organization and clarity, and my weaknesses were found within my conventions and development. I was able to develop ideas but I found it to be inconsistent and I could definitely expand upon many ideas. I also still seem to struggle with MLA formatting, and miss spelling and grammar mistakes when revising.

Overall, I feel that Writing and Rhetoric did meet my expectations for a college level English class. It challenged me, yet taught me many useful tools and tips which will be extremely beneficial for future courses and the professional world.

Thank you, Emily McGovern
