Databending or glitch art is very different from traditional art making processes. It is such a unique process, because you never know the outcome. I find that it is very different to make a work of art with no control of the outcome, since I have been a painter and a potter, which are very controlled processes. I enjoyed doing this because I could have each step and see the difference each time. My favorite photos are the first two photos because the colors from the glitching are bright.

I learned that new and different types of making can be considered art. It was difficult at first to figure out what was supposed to happen while changing the code, since I had missed class. I found that the glitching varied depending on what device the photo was taken on. The photos that were taken on my iPhone 11 seemed to get lines from right to left and from bottom to top. The photos that were taken on my iPhone 6 got lines from the left to right. The photos taken on a camera were totally altered from moving the code around. This activity connected to my prior knowledge of art and art education because we have talked about “What is art and what makes something art?” It is important to consider all ways of making as art. Just because something isn’t traditional, doesn’t mean it isn’t art. This activity connects to my understanding of design thinking because glitch art makes me follow the circle, asking questions, problem solving, and trying different things. I would use this activity in a photography class as a way to alter a digital image when it’s complete. This could also be used as a base for a painting or drawing to overlap. This experience overall was a great process and a learning experience for sure.
