3 Things I learned | 1. I learned about ‘schwa’. Schwa is when some vowels produce the ‘uh’ sound.
2. word patterns: CVC, CV, CVe, CVVC, 3. There are so many different kinds of approaches to teaching phonics. |
2 connections I made (with other texts, course material, fieldwork, your school experiences, etc.) | 1. I remember in elementary school I was taught “the when two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking” when discussing the silent e.
2. I see students in my fieldwork class ‘tapping out’ or ‘stretching out’ words all the time. |
1 thing I am wondering about | How do I make sure I expose children to all these different aspects of phonics so that they succeed? |
I really enjoyed yours! I liked the clarity of it, and I also enjoyed your thought process! I also remember in elementary school being taught about the vowels!
That is also a great question, because I feel as though children should be exposed to all aspects of phonics so that if a student is struggling with learning one way, they can maybe excel in another form!
