Title of Reading: Miller 4 page 74

My goal is to give them a framework for speaking and listening, as well as to help them build a common language for talking about books and ideas. For example, when children share their connections, I ask them to begin this way: “When I read (or heard) these words in the text… it reminded me of …” or “When I saw the picture of… in the text, it made me think about…”

Reason I chose this quote: I think that modeling how to use our brains or ‘how to think out loud’ is important. To get children to think out loud and activate their schema that first have to be shown how to do so.

Creating anchor charts is one of my favorite ways to capture thinking and make it visible, public, and permanent.

Reason I chose this quote: Personally, I work better with an example or something to refer to. Anchor charts can be visually pleasing and simple to provide easy access to valuable information.
